What some Sharpeners are saying about the Ez-Vex

Mike,  it has been almost three weeks since I spent a day with you showing me how to properly use the EZ-VEX sharpening system.  Since then I have been using the EZ-VEX on all  convex scissor I sharpen and have had no problems sharpening any of these scissors. As a matter of fact I believe the EZ-Vex does a better job than the system I was using.  I also believe the EZ-Vex is easier on the scissors and will make them last longer.
I have found that by slowing the machine down I can start at the tip of the blade and stop any hesitation marks when starting at the back of the blade. I have also found that using only the black polishing compound works better than using both the black and the green.
Thank you for the machine and the help. I really believe this is the way scissor will be sharpened in the future.

EZ Vex review
So, after driving up to Ohio with my mom to meet Mike and his wife, Pam, at the Clipper Shack, we got to try out the Ez-Vex; a very nifty machine. If you've seen the youtube video of it, then you probably already have an idea of what it is/what it can do. But to actually get to use it, is (what my mom, Merrie would say) the sexy part.  Being a guy with Central Auditory Processing Disorder; with my fine motor skills slightly affected, it's difficult to free-hand sharpen convex shears on a flat hone for me. Even with an arm and clamp, it just wasn't working out. I could get a decent burr, but the convexing would look rough.  The way this cool machine can work is, you set the disassembled shear in the  clamp, which can adjust from 50-0 angle by raising/lowering the entire arm, and  you sharpen it on the inside curve of a rotating disk (picture a donut). What's awesome is that the inside of the disk you sharpen on is already naturally curved with the shear, instead of sharpening on a flat disk.  The burr comes up quick and it doesn't take long at all to get a shear sharpened. The disks are cake to change out. Just raise the arm and a pin for safety, and pop another disk in with whatever micron paste you want on it.  It can even sharpen beveled shears (by adjusting a pivot on the clamp), curved convex and left handed shears. It also has a cam on the arm which you can lock into place. Doing this will raise the entire arm up as you enter the disk with the shear, and put a sharper angle on the back of the shear, which will make it slide-cut better. I believe he called it a "progressive angle". Another nice  thing too is that you can have an extremely long shear without worrying about barking the tip on a flat hone, which rotates the other direction past the center point.  After test driving it up in Ohio, I loved it, so much so that my parents got it for me for my 18th birthday.  I think Mike has built a pretty awesome machine, and I urge you to try it out and read about it on his site. I've had mine for a couple of weeks, and I love the thing.

Another Review from Ez-Vex user
." I'm extremely delighted with the EZ-VEX system it reproduces the factory edge that the shear has when it is purchased new and these results are accomplished with minimal removal of material from the shear. This is really noticeable when doing color coated shears. Any sharpener that wants to perfect the factory edge should own the EZ-Vex system. With the training that Mike and Pam provide in person, along with the video and outstanding support when out in the field the EZ-Vex system is truly EZ to operate and  a must have for any sharpener".

Review from a Ez-Vex customer
Mike, Green Valley Sales & Sharpening would like to thank you and the Clipper Shack for coming out with such a great sharpening system.  As you know, I have never sharpened anything in my life.  But traveling to Ohio and spending time with you on the Ez-Vex has made my business bloom.
I have gained confidence in my sharpening and in my business since learning to sharpen on the  Ez-Vex.  I now sharpen in Beauty Salons and in Pet Grooming stores that were using flat hone and vertical hone sharpeners who many of them had over 10 plus years of experience. My clients like the way their shears perform, and they also like the fact that when using the Ez-Vex  I remove very little metal saving years of life on their scissors.  The Ez-Vex is Fantastic for those long shears and color coated shears.
I now sharpen for the students at our local beauty school.  The Schools director was so impressed with my sharpening skills on the Ez-Vex, that the school stopped using the guy that had been their sharpener in the past.   I'm proud that your product has allowed me to be able to compete with sharpeners who have many years of experience.   This machine is exactly what any novice needs to start his sharpening business.
Thanks for all your support

This is such a radical departure from grinder and flat hone sharpeners that it is hard to visualize. I saw this machine a few months ago and having seen it makes it easier to understand what is happening. If you have not seen one I suggest you view the video at http://www.clippershack.com/ezvexshearsharpener.html. Keep in mind that the production technique including the music are geared to Nat's generation and not the majority of us.
Good to see someone is thinking of younger people entering our profession.

I am the owner of #5!
I played with the EZ VEX  this past Monday and Today, for the first time.
Great Idea Mike! Inside the wheel!
I'm not one to spend a lot of time on the key board.
I am going to make it an effort, to use at the NSSG this coming November
Frank Hall- Hall Rapid Edge Sharpening  / MA

The Clipper Shack would like to Thank Frank Hall of Hall Rapid Edge Sharpening for taking the Ez-Vex to the NSSG and demonstrating it at the "show and tell" part of their convention.  Sharpeners got the chance to see the Ez-Vex in action, doing Long shears, Curved Shears and Colored Shears with ease.   All this was made possible by Frank taking his Ez-Vex for Show & Tell.

EZ-VEX Scissor Sharpener  .

The Ez-Vex is the First I.D. Hone for Sharpening Color and Coated Convex &  Convex Curved  Shears.  Makes doing LONG  Shears a breeze.  This is the way shears will be sharpened in the future.  It just makes more sense and is better for the life of the shears.

KEEP IN MIND... No other sharpening System on the market today can Perform (sharpening from inside the wheel) like the Ez-Vex

Its New Design allows for the sharpener to use the I.D. of the Hone (Internal Diameter) This Creates a TRUE Convex Edge.  The Ez-Vex not only puts a TRUE convex edge on the shear but our Clamp Allows a True Convex Edge to be put on the Blade Without damaging the finish of the coating on the blade.

Our Ez-Vex Sharpening System removes very little metal and leaves the coating and finish of the shear undamaged.  This new concept of Sharpening from Inside the Wheel creating a TRUE convex edge is the New Generations Sharpener.   The Natural Physics of sharpening from the inside of a wheel is what makes this I.D. Hone easy and accurate.

A true convex edge can now be obtained without damage to the color of the finish of the scissor.

The Clipper Shack's New Shear Sharpening system will do convex shears and bevel shears, curved convex shears and even shears that have special coatings and color to them. This system will not rub the finish on convex and curved shears.

The Ez-Vex system can sharpen shears that need to have a Graduated Angle/(Progressive Angle) put on them.  Its the Only I.D. sharpening system that can accomplish this.

You dont have to spend alot to get the New Revolutionary Concept of Sharpening from Inside the Wheel

You will be able to Sharpen Convex Curved Shears Easy WITHOUT having to put a micro-bevel on the edge.
You will be putting a TRUE convex edge.  And as a bonus, You Will have the Capability to put a Progressive Angle on the Blade "if you choose"

The EZ-VEX  will put a convex edge on the shear from inside the Sharpening Wheel. (this is NOT  a flat hone system)  The Natural Physics from sharpening on the inside of the wheel is what makes the convexing easy.  This system is designed for ease of use, and will be a simple design which will keep the cost of the equipment affordable.

This machine was designed for Curved , Convex Curved and Colored Scissors. The Ez-Vex will be affordable and will put a TRUE convex edge on those convex colored and curved shears.

Basic unit of the Ez-Vex, the first I.D. Hone
Basic Unit comes with the main frame of the machine
The Arms,  The Clamp, Toolpost, the Light, the Power Supply
